First I laid in a background wash of Lemon Yellow over the whole painting. After letting the initial wash dry a little, I started introducing secondary washes of Cadmium Yellow, Vermilion and Permanent Magenta. The new washes created interesting 'blossom' lines, caused by the water of the top washes pushing aside the underlying pigment and etching an irregular line around the inner puddle.
