Gerhard Dohse

Gerhard has taken up painting in retirement and he immediately started turning out work to be proud of.  Many of the examples you see on the Class 4 and 5 page (mixing color) are exercises he produced.  Shown here with his first painting (still in progress but already a winner) he is a joy to work with.

It will be fun when he turns to landscape because he's an avid skier and recently returned from a trip to Austria with some beautiful panoramas of the Alps.

In the photo above you can see this Still Life in an earlier stage.  It was Gerhard's first painting in class and was done on one of his earlier graded wash exercises from Lesson 2.

In the final painting on the right he's darkened the table to provide a visual base for the other objects.

Below Gerhard again used graded wash exercises from Lesson 2 to create these two beautiful paintings.

Above is a grain elevator in bright light and shadow
and below is a barn and wheat fields on the Palouse of Eastern Washington

The paintings below are ones he did at home using various subject matter he found interesting.  It's amazing how fast he's taken to a medium so many find difficult and intimidating.  As you can see - Gerhard is certainly not intimidated in any way.
