This is Jim's latest work in progress.  It's shaping up to be a beautiful painting.

Jim L'Hommedieu

Jim has done a bit of painting in the past, but is really just getting started in watercolor.  He is serious and enthusiastic - attitudes that are sure to make it fun and exciting for him.  Here he's filling his new Robert Wood pallet with about $200 worth of paint.  If that's not dedication - what is?

Starting his first wash exercise

This first effort turned into much more than a simple wash exercise as Jim experimented with layering colors, and used plain water to study blossoming effects and how to lift color back out of a painting....

These 'Glazing' exercises provide a good reference for future paintings

In the still life below left, Jim used 'granulation' to create interesting background colors out of a variety of yellows, a touch of Vermilion and some Cobalt Violet and Alizarin Crimson.  In the second painting on the right he's gotten bolder with the background creating a very dynamic mood.

The objects are 'glazed' over the top of the granulated colors.  These are a great paintings for his first attempts!
