Austin - Age 6 Austin has had some art in preschool and kindergarten, but this is his first experience painting in a real studio with good materials and a little instruction. He got a feeling for the water/paint ratio very quickly, and is easy on the brushes. On this rainbow he had to mix his own purple because the set had no purple.
|
Kielyn - Age 2 Kielyn's previous art experience is limited to preschool, and at two how much experience can you have at anything? But she got right into it and seemed to really enjoy it. She likes color and while she used the brush more like a shovel at first, she got the hang of using water to carry the paint quite quickly.

Here Austin's starting of a painting of a dirt bike - a subject he dearly loves. He did a good, recognizable rendering with the brush and tried out a number of color combinations trying to get the 'dirt' just right.
|
So Kielyn showed him how she does it!
|
| Austin did so well, and
was so respectful of the equipment and materials, that later I let him
try out my good, 'grown-up' paints. I'm pretty protective of this
palette, so it was a real testimony to his progress when I told him he is
the first person I've ever let use it.
|
Kielyn has a surprisingly delicate touch, and is very picky about deciding on which color to use next. She also abhors 'dirty water' and is adamant about getting it changed the minute she senses it's too cloudy for her taste.

Here's the dirt bike painting with dirt and all. It's being ridden by a dinosaur, and the two protrusions at the front of his head are his eyes which are bugging out in anticipation of an imminent crash!

Austin did this wonderful painting of a coconut palm. This one's certainly worthy of framing. Then we'll send it to his Mom and Dad who should be very proud of him indeed!
|
Pictured above is Kielyn's painting
titled Abstract #2. It has rich color, a good use of negative space,
and a lot of raw energy and vitality. I love it, and am glad I have
this picture of it to remind me of her visit! |
